Our overall Hornet High Five winners for this week! Way to work hard, set goals, focus and listen at CES!
At CES, students are working hard to develop proper letter formation in both print and cursive. Research highlights the benefits of handwriting on brain development, showing that the act of forming letters activates neural pathways critical for reading skills. This brain-building effect happens uniquely through handwriting—not through tracing or typing—making it a key part of literacy development (James & Berninger, 2019).
Today, we presented our very first “Perfect Penmanship Award” to celebrate neat writing! Congratulations to 3rd grader Jalyus Kimmis for a beautifully written letter in Mrs. Schneider’s class. Keep up the excellent work, Jalyus!
At CELC and CES we have so many staff and teachers that go above and beyond to support our students and school. This year’s nominees for Beacon of the Year and Teacher of the Year were all so deserving!

There's no place like CES on Halloween!
On Wednesday, October 30th, each classroom nominee for the Student Leadership Team presented their 30-second campaign speech during their lunch shift. Their topic: Why I Want to Be the Student Leadership Representative for Our Grade.
Each of the 38 K-5th grade candidates did an incredible job delivering their speeches at CES! On Monday, CES students will vote to elect six representatives, one for each grade level, to serve on the CES Student Leadership Team, where they will help make important decisions for our school.
