Chautauqua Petting Zoo
This year the Chillicothe FFA Chapter sponsored the petting zoo at the Chautauqua in the Park;
this is our 17th year to participate in the Chautauqua. Our FFA Chapter took this opportunity to share
information with community members about agriculture. Approximately 45 members assisted with the
petting zoo, which is enjoyable for people of all ages! The petting zoo contained of all sorts of animals
such as a calf, puppies, pigs, goats, turkeys, kittens and horses.
This year the Chillicothe FFA Chapter also provided a coloring contest for the local youth. Prizes were
given to each youth that completed the coloring contest. Winners included in the 3-5 year old division
Jayce, in the 6-8 year old division Hudson, in the 9-11 year old division Emily, and in the 12 year old and
up division Lilly. Congratulations to all the winners.
We would like to thank our local supporters Chillicothe Orscheln’s Farm and Home for the use of the
gates and the Livingston County Farm Bureau assisted with the coloring contest, signs and hand
sanitizer. Thanks to all of the individuals that visited the Chillicothe FFA Chautauqua Petting Zoo!

During its August 20th meeting, the Chillicothe R-II Board of Education rescinded the award of a bid made by the Hamilton Group for the purchase of the vacant Central School building. Earlier this summer, the District requested bids for purchase of the Central School building, and the Hamilton Group submitted a bid containing the specifications approved by the Board of Education. The District's bid specifications required that purchasers of Central School provide a performance bond in the amount of $175,000 and begin development of the property by July 1, 2020.
The Board of Education awarded the bid to the Hamilton Group at its June 18th meeting based upon the Hamilton Group's bid specifications. Subsequent to the Board's award, however, the Hamilton Group informed the District that it could no longer purchase Central School along the specifications outlined in its bid. Due to regulations regarding the bidding and awarding process, it was necessary for the Board of Education to rescind its previous award to the Hamilton Group once the Hamilton Group indicated it could no longer perform according to its bid specifications.
The Board of Education will hold a special meeting on Tuesday, August 27th, at 6:30 p.m., at the GRTS Building (1200 Fair Street), to discuss the future of the Central School building. The Board has been, and continues to be, concerned with a District or privately owned building that falls into disrepair. The Board of Education will have public comment listed on the agenda of the August 27th meeting and looks forward to community input so that an appropriate decision can be made concerning the Central School property.
The Transportation phone line is experiencing high call volume. If operators are on the line, callers will only hear the ringing. If service is needed, please try again.
The Chillicothe R-II School District is accepting applications for a grade 6-12 school nurse.
